Originally constructed in Romanesque form, the Burgos Cathedral was built in the 13th century. Then, in the 15th and 16th centuries Gothic alterations were made to the structure. It was these modifications that gave the cathedral its striking appearance that one sees today. The barbed spires atop the statuesque towers are its most prominent feature. El Cid, the adored war hero from the Middle Ages, and his wife's tombs are located here.
Cycle through the Fuentes Blancas Park, and take in the greenery of the tree lined paths that run along the Arlanzón River. Burgos has a terrific free bicycle loan system called Bicibur. There are more than 20 bicycle posts throughout the city. It's a great way to tour the city, and it's environmentally friendly.
