Hotel Reservations in Cádiz

Seize the medieval essence of the oldest city in Western Europe when you stay in a luxury hotel in Cádiz, Spain.  Established by the Phoenicians 3000 years ago, Cádiz is located on a peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean just off the South Western coast of Spain.  The winding narrow streets of the Old Town lead to plazas and much to be explored within the fortified walls of this quarter, while just south of the outer walls lay sweeping beaches and modern resorts mark the New Section of Cádiz.

Meander the ancient cobblestone streets of the Old Town and tour the Museo de Cádiz, a fine arts and architectural museum in Plaza de Mina that holds the works of Murillo, Rubens and Zurbarán.  Climb the highest tower, torre de Poniente, of the Cádiz Cathedral for breathtaking views of the city; the cathedral is located in Plaza de la Catedral.  La Playa de la Caleta is the most beloved beach of the people from Cádiz; it is 400 meters long and is nestled in between two castles.

Pass through the arched gateway, Las Puertas de Tierra, of the old fortress walls to enter the New Town section of Cádiz.  Playa de la Victoria is a 3km long sandy beach that appeases visitors' every need with the convenience of nearby cafes and shops.  Plaza de Flores is the best place for shopping, and the location of the Central Market, where among many other items, the locally made Jerez Sherry can be found.

For the more adventurous souls, don't miss Cádiz' Carnival.  This week of festivities takes place annually at the end of February or the beginning of March.  Cádiz' Carnival makes New Orleans's Mardis Gras appear tame.  The whole city participates in this event and new comers are welcome, all that is needed is a costume and a sense of humor.  Kazoo quartets and groups of performers, Chirigotas, sing and act out parodies mocking Spain's politics and poking fun at the scandalous and ridiculous current events.
